The Proposal

AV: Let's keep this one a secret for now and refrain from reposting or quoting it on FB, Twitter or wherever, since I'll only share this with my Multiply friends who I consider as a big part of my life. This one's for us geeks!

Last Thursday, the wife celebrated her 25th birthday with her friends via a videoke party at Centerstage, Jupiter St. The "mini-reunion/ birthday celebration" lasted all three hours and ended at around 12-ish. After that, it was off to the house because she said that she was tired and didn't want to "head to Starbucks MOA" or "grab a bite at McDo."

But before anything else, let's rewind a bit to when I bought her engagement ring. It was the last week of August, and Bie was set to arrive for her nth vacation this year at the end of the month. I knew that I had to buy the ring at the soonest possible time, and wouldn't have the time to do so once she arrives (since my sister will also be in town and I will be driving for both ladies in September-- ah the joys of being the official family driver).

Looking back, I had absolutely no idea on how to buy a nice ring. My idea of one is a gold band with a nice, shiny piece of diamond sticking out of it. That's it. To my luck, there was a jewelry store at the SM Mall of Asia that had some pieces on sale. I won't disclose the amount here of course (since Bie would probably open this entry at some point when I'm not around) but let's just say that it's 30-ish (with the original price being 40-ish).

I remember what I told the saleslady that day, that I hope they would wish me luck in my conquest.

Back to Bie's post-birthday drive then.

Once home, I went straight to the fridge to pull out the Red Ribbon cake I asked ma to buy earlier during the day. Bie was busy removing her make-up at the time so I was able to surprise her- lit candle, song and all.

After that, I rushed to my bedroom and just had this weird/ happy feeling that it was the right time. We weren't atop the mountains overlooking the beautiful city, or by the beach. I was in my room, down on one knee with a ring and a simple question in mind.

She opened the door and saw me kneeling. I saw her eyes water a bit. I don't know if it was because she's sleepy, or that she was just as surprised as I was at the time.

"Will you marry me?"

That's all I said.

She kissed me.

Not an answer really, so I asked again.

She said "yes."

I tried to sound serious, and didn't want to get her hopes up. I still have no money, not enough to have the wedding that we want, but I showed her a notebook that I have, computing my monthly salaries and when it would be wise enough, or "ripe enough." She said that she couldn't care less.

That in the end, I was the one she wanted to marry, that I was taking too long and that she'd marry me anytime, anywhere.

Step 2: Breaking the news to her parents. Wish me luck!
